Process

The main motif of the logo is derived from Pietro Agnostini’s Angel Hair project, which began in 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic when drawing was his daily routine while living in isolation in a small house among the mountains.
It was also during this time that he started experimenting with the creation of glyphs and ligatures that corresponded to vocal phonetics eventually culminating in the creation of a writing system named Angel Hair. It was named in reference to this

Pietro wrote this during that period:

“Words are never enough, not because they are few or empty, but because they exist to talk to themselves. I made glyphs relying on a temporary sensation, suspending rationality, and trying to stimulate the unknown, to make a clean sweep of logical superstructures. I wanted to reverse the chronological process that turned a capsized bull’s head into what we now know as A. The glyphs were assigned to the letters in a totally personal and instinctive way, inviting the user to weave the silhouettes, conceiving new and fruitful interpretations.

The name Angel Hair wants to recall that sacredness, that superstition triggered by the inability to grasp the inexplicable. Angel hair comes to the aid of memory and soothes the natural inclination to seek the Self. A non-writers font.”

After stumbling upon his work on the cover album art of X, wheel by Heith, I reached out to Pietro and he was kind enough to translate bulan (moon or 月) into his Angel Hair glyphs, depicted in the center of the logo.

3 months later I remember aimlessly scrolling through my IG feed during my lunch break and stumbled upon one of the prettiest party posters I had seen online. It was for a Pure G party, INCESSENT featuring DJ Nobu at Final Taipei on 8 September 2023. The poster was designed by nicolò pellarin and incorporated a photograph by Jun Yokoyama in the top left corner. Though a relatively simple poster compared to the chronicle of party posters found on Final’s Instagram, I was immediately drawn to it and sent it to Pang (Neverprof), a DJ and graphic designer within Intermission, the Malaysian DJ collective I am a part of.

Pang helped create the current logo for the bb.bulan project by amalgamating Pietro’s Angel Hair with the creative references drawn from the party poster, triple moon goddess (Celtic mythology), and final fantasy. Thanks Pang!

Why Final Fantasy?

Growing up with 3 Internet Explorer-using siblings, our childhood was coloured by the shared experience of (competitively) observing each other play online games. Final Fantasy was one of the computer games we would play in the early 2000s (Worms Armageddon, Maplestory, Dune 2000, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Sims 2). The iconic RPG, with its beautiful illustrations, character designs, and narratives allowed it to transcend beyond the realm of gaming, as it became the source of inspiration for various music-related ventures, from Final (a club in Taipei, Taiwan) to Dark0’s Eternity album cover.

This acknowledgment of the Final Fantasy references that predate the bb.bulan logo is not meant to equate this project with their unique artistry. I hope that this project fosters a sense of accessible fantasy as you navigate through the website. While I can't provide a physical space of comfort or a tangible album, I hope to transmit to you the inspiring worlds that have influenced me.
